Founded by Michael Cretu in 1990 and widely regarded as the Godfather of New Age, Enigma fused electronic music and worldbeat with Gregorian chant, ethnic samples, and sensual motifs — an unprecedented combination that has shaped a genre ever since.

Debut single "Sadeness (Part I)" became an international hit despite controversy and bans. "Sadeness" hit #1 in more than 20 countries; MCMXC a.D. went multi-platinum and spent five years on the Billboard 200.
