Dakshini Marathi

“Dakshini Marathi”, also known as “Thanjavur Marathi” is the dialect of Marathi as it is spoken by the Thanjavur Maharashtrians residing primarily in the State of Tamil Nadu; and also in the States wiz. Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

In smaller numbers, Dakshini Marathi is also spoken by the Thanjavur Maharashtrians, who have further migrated to States like Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, and also to countries like Australia, New Zealand, UK, and USA.

Through this channel, we are attempting to reach out to the native speakers of Dakshini Marathi, bring them together and try to preserve the oral traditions by way of audio-visual recordings.
